Surf’s up, dude!!  I just arrived in one of the most amazing places to go surfing; Mentawai Island in Indonesia. I never thought of Indonesia for a place to surf but the waves are totally rad and the island is beautiful. Right now it is winter here on the southern hemisphere and that is one of the best times to surf on the island. This area has the most consistent waves than other places in the world. That makes it a wonderful place to surf all day long and to learn new surf tricks.

Our “house” that we are staying in is called an “uma”, and what that is is a traditional Mentawai thatched style house built by a Mentawai craftsman.  Today is about SURFING!  I cannot wait to get into the very blue water and experience the waves. I am also going to take lessons from one of the instructors on the island so I can learn more about the waves on the island.

Tomorrow I am going to get in some early morning surfing before we head off on a jungle cruise to see more of the island.  I hope we get back early enough so I can surf again before mom and dad are off to sing Karaoke (parents always think they can sing). Even though this vacation is relaxing I think I may be tired when I get back home from all of the exercise from surfing.
