India
April 25th, 2011
As my family and I continue to travel to the New Seven Wonders of the World our next adventure takes us to India to visit the Taj Mahal. We landed today and understand that the best times to visit Taj Mahal are when the sun rises or when the sun sets. So we have decided to get to bed early (that will not be hard because I am very tired from the long plane ride) and to wake up very early to make sure we get there just in time to experience how beautiful the building looks when the sun rises.
I was so tired today when my mom woke me up to go visit the Taj Mahal, but once I got there it was hard not to be amazed by how big and beautiful the building is. As we saw the sun come up and hit the building it was like the stones had all kinds of different colors painted on them. I guess when the sun hits the stones it gives an illusion that there are different colors on the building.
After the sun was up we went on a tour of Taj Mahal learning many interesting facts. Did you know that it took 22 years to build? It also took 22,000 workers, and used 1,000 elephants to carry the materials that were necessary to build this palace. Shah Jahan built this amazing building for his wife Mumtaz Mahal as a monument to their love. I was amazed at all the detailed carvings and calligraphy that are on the walls as soon as you walk in. Many of the words are bible verses from the Quran. I also learned that many people that visit here can feel the love that has been placed in this building (I am not really sure how they feel it but I guess adults know that kind of thing). After seeing the Taj Mahal up close and personal I can see why it has been chosen as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Taj Mahal is one of India’s most treasured landmarks and I hope you will be able to visit there one day.
After visiting the Taj Mahal we did some site seeing around town. Another stop before we leave India is to see some of the wildlife that lives here, so we will be heading to Gujarat to visit the Gir Wildlife Sanctuary where we will be able to see the Asiatic lions (they are a little smaller than the lions in Africa), Leopards, and Chowsingha (this is a four horned Antelope). Visiting animals is one of my favorite things to do. My little brother and sister are very excited to go as well!
I need my rest for our adventure tomorrow so it is off to bed for me. Until next time, when we visit another part of our wonderful world.|
Good Night!
