Egypt
February 4th, 2012
Burrrrr, it is too cold here at home so we are on a plane and off to warm and sunny Egypt! Did you know that Egypt is part of Africa? It is located at the very top of Africa. This is a good time of year to visit Egypt because it is winter there, just like it is in North America, and it is a little cooler than during the summer months.
My family and I have our goals set high to make sure we visit as many of the seven original wonders of the world as possible. The seven original wonders of the world are these wonderful places that people have talked about for many years and now we are able to visit most of them and see how amazing they are up close and personal.
Our journey to visit the seven wonders brings us to Egypt to view The Pyramids of Giza. Pyramids were built a REALLY long time ago as a place to bury the Egyptian Pharaohs. A pharaoh was a person who had a lot of authority and wealth.
When I saw the pyramid up close I could not stop starring. These triangle shaped buildings are so BIG I could not believe what I was seeing. There are eight pyramids, some built a little different than others, and smaller than others. We were able to go inside one of the pyramids and saw some beautiful pictures that were painted on the walls, and words that were written in hieroglyphics. Hieroglyphics is the name of the writing that Egyptians used a long time ago. The words were not letters but instead were pictures. For instance “William” would look like this:

It would take me forever just to write my name. I guess cursive writing does not seem so bad now. The Egyptians must have been amazing artists to be able to draw this each time they needed to write something. There was so much written on the walls it was really cool to look at. All I kept saying was “how did they do that?!” I now see why the pyramids are one of the original Seven Wonders of the World.
What would your name look like in hieroglyphics? Give it a try:

After our tour of the pyramids it was off to go scuba diving and snorkeling in the very blue waters of The Red Sea. We saw some amazing coral reefs and very colorful fish. I did not want to come out of the water.
We had such an amazing journey today I cannot wait for our next trip. Any ideas on where you would like us to visit?
